We are the creators of VarSome, a suite of bioinformatics tools for processing and annotation of NGS data. We are a multi-disciplinary team driven by passion and curiosity, bringing together strong skills in life sciences and software engineering.
We were frustrated with the inconsistency and amount of time and effort it takes to find comprehensive information on gene variants in the fragmented landscape of human genomics, and we decided to act on it. The result is VarSome, a set of sophisticated platforms and tools that will save you both time and effort.
Our goal is to help improve outcomes for patients by offering clinicians data-driven solutions for making faster, more accurate diagnoses and for selecting the best therapies. To do this, we are pioneering genome-scale analysis and annotation of NGS data through providing algorithms and sophisticated tools for aggregating, harmonizing and analyzing large amounts of data across multiple disparate sources.

Andreas has a proven track record in creating value from big data analysis. With more than ten years of experience in genomics, Andreas previously worked for leading investment banks Salomon Brothers, Credit Suisse, and Citigroup and developed advanced data analysis tools that were used in financial products. After more than a decade in finance, Andreas began a second career by becoming one of the pioneers in applying big data and computer science know-how to genetics. He received a PhD in Computational Genetics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne (EPFL) and a MEng in Software Engineering from Imperial College London.
Tomas received a PhD degree in molecular biology and biochemistry at Charles University in Prague in 2013. Prior to joining Saphetor, Tomas founded and led as CEO for several years Koongo, a SaaS tool for multichannel marketing, culminating in successful sale of the business. Later, he worked for a health and genetics clinic where he was designing algorithms for the risk assessment for genetic diseases and the underlying IT infrastructure. ‘Working for Saphetor is a great opportunity allowing me to combine my scientific background with my past experiences in the world of SaaS and Internet technologies.’
Richard has had a distinguished career in the financial technology serving in senior positions in Salomon Brothers/Citigroup, JP Morgan and Deutsche Bank, where he has successfully run global teams of up to 300 engineers in investment banking, electronic trading and risk management across all asset classes. More recently and prior to joining Saphetor, he began a second career in innovative companies. He worked in the music technology business, developing professional DSP synthesisers, including a mobile app showcased by Apple. Richard holds a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Paris. He offers a rare combination of advanced managerial skills, hands on software engineering and an insatiable appetite to learn and solve interesting problems.
Christos has been developing web applications since 2001. After receiving his MSc in e-commerce from the University of Economics and Business in Athens he developed into a full stack engineer. With more than a decade of experience in server environments, data modeling, backend, and frontend software development Christos joined Saphetor in 2014.
